WESTWOOD, Mass. (WHDH) – 12 people were taken to the hospital to be evaluated Monday afternoon after pepper spray was accidentally released inside a discount shop in Westwood, officials said.

The owner said an employee who found a pepper spray can attached to a key chain on the floor sprayed it thinking it was it was perfume.

None of the injuries were considered serious, officials said.

Those injured complained of burning throats and eyes.
