Michigan residents were perplexed Tuesday after a large flash of light lit up the sky in the southeastern portion of the state during the evening.It was later surmised that the source was possibly a meteor but it was not immediately confirmed, which fed confusion to many of those who took video of the sighting. “What I thought was a flash of lightning followed by thunder a minute ago turned out to be a huge meteor! Anyone else see/hear it?” The National Weather Service in Detroit confirms that the flash was indeed a meteor, stretching across the sky around 8:10 p.m. local time, though it took some time for an official conformation of the meteor sighting.The U.S. Geological Survey says the force of the meteor led to a small 2.0 magnitude earthquake. Twitter did not wait for the official confirmation, however, and soon the entire incident was trending. Another Twitter user said, "Michigan winters are so bad they now include Meteor strikes. #Meteor." "People from all parts of SE Michigan are reporting a bright flash in the sky and a loud boom. Somebody call that crazy haired guy from Ancient Aliens. We need his ancient astronaut theorist input. #meteor," tweeted another."Everyone in the Great Lakes area right now #Meteor," tweeted Nicholas. There was video caught of the incident on the road.
